Reminder!!! Mandatory MIDWAY weigh-ins starts Monday! Weigh-in’s occur at Ministry Health Care 2501 building February 27-29 from 3-7 p.m. You and you team must be present or face disqualification. T-shirts will also be available for pick up. If the weigh-in doesn’t work for you or a team member, simply call Traci to make other arrangements. 715.346.5416

DOUBLE RAFFLE continues this week. Just bring in an item related to the theme to obtain 2x the raffle tickets for the prizes on Monday. Just a reminder, you can bring food items to all MCWR events and you obtain one ticket per item. No need to be present to win at the presentation.

Panel of Experts

The Panel of Experts will be back in action this coming Monday to answer any burning questions that you have relating to topics regarding nutrition, exercise, injury prevention, relationships and emotion as they pertain to weight loss. Panel includes, Clare Cullen, FNP from Ministry Medical Group, Sarah Agnea-Wright from Adventure 212, Dr. Corey Huck from UWSP, and Chad Kollman from CK Fitness. They will provide tips designed to target your individual needs. Do you find yourself struggling to lose weight and have questions on what you should be doing, or if you are doing okay, but want to figure out how you can lose more? Have no fear; the panel is here to help you move in the right direction! Along with advice, the panel is here to help motivate you.

Hear what advice these wonderful experts have for you and others in the Ministry Community Weight Race. Don’t miss this great opportunity to get moving in the right direction. It might be the little push you need. The presentation will be from 5:30 - 6:30 p.m. held on the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point campus in the Dreyfus University Center Building in the Alumni Room, 1015 Reserve Street, Stevens Point. Presentation Review: Small Change, Big Change: Losing 10% makes a difference

This week’s presentation was an exciting educational talk about healthy choices on the go by Deborah Tang, MS, RD, CD from UWSP. She shared some ideas that have worked for her such as: no forbidden foods (moderation), not to drink away calories, quality not quantity, share or doggie bag, and rituals like brushing your teeth after you eat. Planning ahead is also a good idea because then you can pack fruits, vegetables, nuts, or granola bars instead of hitting the vending machines for candy and chips. A website she suggested was NEMS-V. NEMS-V is a site that gives nutrition information on vending machine options. She then had an interactive game with the audience, trying to guess if a snack was a Go (often), Slow (sometimes) or Whoa (rarely) snack.

“Go” snacks provide:
1.    At least one serving of non-fat/low fat dairy, fruit, vegetable, and/or whole grains.
2.    200 or less calories per Package
3.    No more than 35% of total calories from fat
4.    Less than 10% of total calories from saturated fat
5.    Zero trans fats
6.    35% or less of total calories from sugars
7.    Sodium content of 200mg or less (nuts may have more)

“Slow” foods provide all Go requirements except the first. 

“Whoa” foods do not meet the first or at least one other requirement.

Workshop’s this week:
Butts and Guts: Are you looking to get a great workout and learn new exercises to develop your six-pack abs!?  You should attend Go Nuts with Butts and Guts this Thursday March 1st. By doing butt and abdominal exercises you will work the troublesome areas by firming your abs, rear, and legs. This muscle conditioning workout will make you sweat and burn calories to help you reach your weight loss goal. 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. classes.

Gratitude Challenge: “An obstacle is just an opportunity seen from a different perspective." Join us for the 7 Day Gratitude Challenge which starts March 1st. Gratitude is something we often do not think about but has excellent effects on our mood and general out look on life. Whether you are already express your gratitude every day or you have a hard time finding things to be grateful for, this is the workshop for you. Join us on Thursday, March 1st for some gratitude boosting activities that will start you on your 7 day Challenge to Happiness. 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. classes.
