Emergency and Trauma Services
Ministry’s Emergency and Trauma Services provide 24-hour access to critical care for for all emergent medical conditions, illnesses and injuries at twelve locations across northern and central Wisconsin.
Ministry Health Care provides emergency care in all of our hospitals, each providing full emergency services 24 hours a day, seven days a week. For the most urgent emergency situations, critical patients can reach the nearest emergency room in minutes by a Ministry Spirit Medical Transportation helicopter.
Additional emergency services include Heart Attack Care/Rescue1 program, Chest Pain Centers, Stroke Care and the Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) program.
Physical trauma is a serious injury to the body. Blunt force trauma occurs when the body is struck with an object or force, causing concussions, lacerations or fractures. Penetrating trauma occurs when an object pierces the skin or body, usually creating an open wound. Trauma is the leading cause of death and disability in the first four decades of life.
All of Ministry's emergency physicians and nurses are specially trained and prepared to handle traumatic emergencies. Ministry Saint Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield is also the only American College of Surgeons-verified Adult and Pediatric Level II Trauma Center in north central Wisconsin. Our Pediatric Trauma Center is one of only three in the state of Wisconsin. This achievement recognizes our ability to provide the highest quality of comprehensive care for injured patients of all ages.
